Cranberry Hibiscus has many names including African Rose Mallow, False Roselle, Maroon Mallow, or Red-Leaved Hibiscus, which is an attractive perennial shrub renowned for its vibrant foliage and culinary uses. The leaves are Deep burgundy or crimson in color serrated edges just like a Japanese maple.
As the the name suggests African Rose Mallow, the plant is native to Africa and is now cultivated in warm regions worldwide. The plant also bears flowers that are pale yellow with red centers and they bloom either late summer or early fall. Another fascinating thing about it is both the leaves and flowers are edible and are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
